Comments are go!

I’m now trying out Peter’s Custom Anti-Spam Image Plugin for Wordpress to keep the spammers at bay. Let’s see if it works.

  1. It is better spam karma 2! :)

  2. Looks nice. I personally use Filosofo Comment Preview and CAPTCHA plugin, but the spammers figured out how to get around it relatively quickly. I used to rely on Akismet and a moderation queue with a wordlist, and a “first post is always moderated” rule. Unfortunately after a while, some stuff started seeping trhough to my moderation queue making it more work for me.

Recently I installed the Bad Behavior plugin which seems to profile the visitors, and locks out the most notorious perl based spambots, and crawlers which do not respect robots.txt. The author promisses that all the major search engine crawlers are unaffected by the plugin, and no one complained about being unable to post legitimate comments yet.

Since I installed it, I have yet to see a single spam comment hit my Akismet Queue. I have racked up over 4k blocked hits just this week.

  3. I’m still checking in every now and again… but I’m hoping to see an update on your thesis! How’s it going?

  4. what language is this thing written in? if you show me your access logs containing spam and tell me where to find the source code i’m sure i can greatly reduce your spam load.
