Country domains

AmericanFlagBurnDavao 3

Militants in Davao City burn a mock American flag to protest the colonialist character of the .com domain.

Here in the office today, we at the Department of Internet Science theorize that the addition of the .au country domain to a website URL provides a constant sense of security and reassurance to Australian users who might otherwise feel adrift, or experience bouts of anti-American sentiment on account of the .com domain’s purporting, by its very lack of geographical markers, to stand for global commerce when it is in fact rampantly US-centric.
